What this quote means is that the amount of honor you receive is based on how you act. If you act like a well-mannered gentleman then you will receive a great amount of honor. But if you act like a disrespectful person you won’t receive any honor.

What this quote is saying is that, it is better to fail at something with honor than to win at that thing by cheating. For example It is better to lose in a sports game while playing the game fairly than to win at a game by cheating. So it is important to do everything with honor than to cheat.

What is Honor?

Honor is respect you show for others and yourself. Honor is when someone views you as a great, nice, or responsible person. Dishonor is the complete opposite of honor. Dishonor is when someone views you in a negative way. The way in which others classify you, as being honorable or dishonorable depends on your words and actions. If you’re a kind person who always tries to do the right thing everyone will view you as an honorable person. But if you’re an bad person who insults others and breaks the law, you’ll be viewed as dishonorable.
