Ophthalmic Technician

Duties and Responsibilities
Ophthalmic technicians help ophthalmologists collect data and measurements to allow the correct diagnosis and treatments of eye diseases. They may work at hospitals, clinics, or even in private practice. Their job duties include performing simple eye exams, assisting with eye surgery, and explaining the procedure to the patient.

Average Salary: $14,000-$25,000

Educational Requirements
In order to become an ophthalmic technician you’ll need a high school diploma or GED certificate. You will also need two years of college study before you begin your ophthalmic training.

Do you think you would like to be one?

I wouldn’t want to be one because optometry doesn’t interest me.
