Optical Laboratory Technician
Duties and Responsibilities
Optical
laboratory technicians grind and fit eyeglass lenses into frames according to prescription(s)
written by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Technicians set lens grinding
machines so that lens blanks are ground and polished. They then fit the
polished lens into eyeglass frames and fit the frames on their patients.
Optical Laboratory Technicians may work in optical laboratories or in retail
stores.
Salary: $15,000-$20,000
Educational Requirements
In order to
become an optical laboratory technician you need to have a high school diploma
or GED certificate. If you have either of those two then you can start beginning
optical laboratory training. Training may last between six months to a year and
are provided at community college.
Would you like to be one?
I would want
to be an optical laboratory technician, but only as apart time job and not as a
full time career.
