Optical Laboratory Technician

Duties and Responsibilities
Optical laboratory technicians grind and fit eyeglass lenses into frames according to prescription(s) written by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Technicians set lens grinding machines so that lens blanks are ground and polished. They then fit the polished lens into eyeglass frames and fit the frames on their patients. Optical Laboratory Technicians may work in optical laboratories or in retail stores.

Salary: $15,000-$20,000

Educational Requirements
In order to become an optical laboratory technician you need to have a high school diploma or GED certificate. If you have either of those two then you can start beginning optical laboratory training. Training may last between six months to a year and are provided at community college.

Would you like to be one?

I would want to be an optical laboratory technician, but only as apart time job and not as a full time career.
